How do you use LinkedIn in 2017 for developers?

LinkedIn is much different in 2017, than it was in 2016 or even 2015. In 2012-2014 I mastered LinkedIn and used it to stand out from the crowd, and got many life changing opportunities from this platform. And I didn’t do it how you might think. I’m uniquely positioned to give you this advice, so please listen!

    Hi Dain,

I appreciate you advices for leveraging one’s LinkedIn profile, but what do you think of this situation. I’m a Presales Engineer at IT company and want to switch to a freelance webdev, or have it as a second income stream. I have LinkeIn connections to bunch of people in my company and they are all aware of my current position. So I definitely cannot just put freelance developer as my headline/description. Also, webdev is quite different than my current position, so how would those different skill sets appear on my profile? Are there any special LinkeIn features that I can use?

I would like to know how would you approach this scenario.

    Thanks,
    Ante
